6.4.2.4. Adverbs conveying aspectual information

In LSC, the sign already is used in order to express completive aspect. This sign is most of the times placed after the verbal form, as shown below.

morning shower already.

โ€˜I had a shower this morning.โ€™

(based on Ribera, 2015: 320)

However, resultative constructions in deadjectival verbs show a different pattern. In this type of constructions, the sign already is placed before the verb, as illustrated in the example below.

cat ix3 already drunk.

โ€˜The cat has already got drunk.โ€™

(based on Ribera, 2015: 317)

Moreover, in some other contexts the sign already can be in a position far from the verb, as exemplified below.

already enough ix1 ironing tired.

โ€˜Itโ€™s enough! I am sick of ironing.โ€™

(based on Ribera, 2015: 318)

Therefore, the sign already in LSC may have different positions and functions.
