Common nouns describe classes of entities, which can be concrete or abstract. Concrete nouns can be identified through one of the five senses: taste, touch, sight, hearing, and smell. They are tangible. In contrast, abstract nouns cannot be perceived using one of these five senses. They refer to actions, feelings, ideas, concepts, and qualities, all of which are intangible.
