Chapter 5. Classifiers

It is common in sign languages to depict salient iconic aspects of animate or inanimate entities by manual articulation, in particular, by handshape. Grammatical categories that express entities by such means are called classifiers. In this chapter, classifiers in TÄ°D are explained and exemplified mainly under two categories: predicate classifiers and size and shape specifiers (SASS, also known as adjectival classifiers).
