Assimilation, described in PHONOLOGY 3.1.1, concerns the adaptation of phonemic features to features of the preceding or following sign. Coalescence is a type of cliticization and is described in PHONOLOGY 3.1.2. Movement reduction and extension is the subject of Section 3.1.3, while weak hand drop is addressed in PHONOLOGY 3.1.4. No research has been done on handshape drop, and consequently, this section remains empty. Nativization and metathesis are described in PHONOLOGY 3.1.6 and 3.1.7, respectively.
