3.5.1.6. Other conditional constructions

Some clauses that usually start with the manual sign for-example may have conditional reading. for-exampleis signed with the back of oneโ€™s hand tipping twice the palm of the other hand. In cases with conditional reading, for-exampledenotes a discourse of exemplification. That means, the antecedent depicts an example and can be fulfilled or not. This โ€˜exampleโ€™ is an affirmative idea/argument and has to be verified in the context.

An example in DGS can be seen below.

          for-example ix2 card cl:โ€˜putโ€™  then ix1 next cl:โ€˜putโ€™

โ€˜If you play the card, for example, Iโ€™m going to play the next card.โ€™

The sign for-example can also be accompanied with the typical conditional non-manuals as raised eyebrows, head or/and body movements.
