2.1. Community characteristics

The Catalan Sign Language community is a social, cultural and linguistic community that arises from the need of deaf people to gather with others with whom they share common goals and interests. It is primarily composed by deaf people who acquired LSC (both in early and late stages of life), and also by hearing people who are competent in LSC and have a deep knowledge of the Deaf community (like relatives, friends, interpreters, educators, psychologists, doctors, speech therapists, etc.).
