Chapter 2. The non-native lexicon

The non-native lexicon comprises those forms that have not developed exclusively through the usage of the language among native signers, but rather have arisen or been borrowed as a result of the contact with other languages. This chapter outlines the LSC lexicon that consists of forms incorporated from other sign languages and from the two major neighbouring spoken languages, namely Catalan and Spanish. The upcoming sections present each type with some illustrative examples.
