In Catalonia, it is calculated that there are more than 25.000 LSC signers, from which about 11.000 are deaf people. Among the deaf signers, it is in general estimated that only the 5-10% of infants have deaf parents. Most of these infants acquire LSC in an early stage of life. The rest of deaf signers usually have their first contact with LSC in later stages either at school or through contact with other deaf individuals.
