A Grammar of Catalan Sign Language (LSC)

Chapter 1. Sublexical structure

Lexical signs can be decomposed in sublexical units, known as phonological parameters. There are five different groups of phonological parameters in sign languages: handshape, orientation, location, and movement at the manual level, and non-manual markers (facial expressions, and head and body movements). The last type of phonological parameter (non-manual markers) may not be specified for some lexical signs. In this chapter, we describe the inventory of phonological parameters in LSC and their organization.
