Orientation is defined by the direction of the fingers or the orientation of the palm of the hand in relation to a specific location, like the torso or the signing space. In LSC orientation can create minimal pairs, like the following ones.
a) mother vs. afternoon
b) quiet vs. always
c) teacher vs. student
d) threat vs. short-person
e) world vs. school
