A Grammar of Catalan Sign Language (LSC)

Chapter 9. Figurative meaning

LSC often conveys linguistic expressions not used in their literal meaning, but to refer to some other concepts. The notion of figurative meaning refers to expressing one thing denoting another with which it may be regarded as analogous. In metaphors two different concepts can be mapped onto each other, and one (typically abstract) concept is understood through the other (typically more concrete) concept. In metonymy one entity stands for another related entity, for instance a part for the whole.
