6.4.2.1. Temporal adverbs
Temporal information is LSC is primarily encoded by independent manual signs (i.e. today, yesterday, among other temporal expressions) [LEXICON 3.5.2]. Temporal expressions are mainly placed at the beginning of the sentence, establishing a temporal framework. In the example below, time is specified at the beginning of the sentence and it determines the temporal interpretation of the whole paragraph.
yesterday student group ix3pl go cathedral visit end after cathedral in_front_of jesus cl(L): ‘objects’ see already go museum shoe.
‘Yesterday I visited the cathedral with my students. After that we saw the Christmas objects stalls outside and then we went to the Shoe Museum.’
(recreated from Quer et al., 2005)
Moreover, LSC makes use of different time lines (or axis), in which temporal signs are placed, that indicate temporal information [MORPHOLOGY 3.2.1, PRAGMATICS 8.2].
